In many cultures around the world, important life transitions were marked with rites of passage — moments when community gathered to acknowledge that something meaningful was changing. These ceremonies offered a way to pause, reflect, and step into the next stage of life with support and recognition.
Today, many of these traditions have faded from everyday life. Yet the need for connection, community, and meaningful ways to honour our transitions remains.
Youth Fire Quest
The Youth Fire Quest, guided by Matt McKinney with support from Cari Burdett, is a coming-of-age experience for youth ages 12 and up. At its heart is an overnight solo fire vigil, where each teen tends their own fire through the night while being held by mentors, family, and community nearby.

For adults, the Adult Fire Quest offers a similar opportunity to step out of daily life and into a more intentional rhythm. With time on the land, space for reflection, and the support of community, it becomes a way to cross a threshold with awareness rather than alone.
