If you’ve ever pictured yourself weaving, but don’t have room for a loom, CSAG has an exciting Sampler Tapestry Workshop with Alison Irwin coming up that will show you how to do it on a smaller scale…

About Alison Irwin

Local artist Alison Irwin (who was recently presented with the City of Duncan’s Perpetual Arts Award) has been involved in the local arts community for most of her adult life. She has many artistic interests but her biggest passion is weaving, and she spends many hours every year promoting, teaching, and displaying many forms of woven art.

The award, given to individuals who have provided long-term service to the community, honoured Alison’s service in arts education with beginner courses and advanced classes both locally and beyond BC’s borders! Not only has she received praise in the world of woven tapestry, but also with graphic arts — several of her projects have been published in Handwoven magazine (Interweave Press, Loveland, Colorado). She has been building and promoting the arts community as a member of the Tzouhalem Spinners and Weavers Guild at the Guild’s events and shows, and is often seen at other community events teaching weaving, with special attention to getting children involved.

What to Expect

On May 23, she will be teaching 12 participants how to start their weaving journey using a small picture frame as a loom! It’s a project that is small enough to give participants a taste of what’s involved plus they will learn new vocabulary.

Spaces are limited so if you’d like to attend, please RSVP early by sending an email with your name and number of attendees to hello@cowichansouthartsguild.com.
