The Duncan Freedom Gospel Choir is excited about this year’s concert repertoire. Under the direction of new choir leader Michelle Weckesser, the 40-strong choir is perfecting solos and learning the art of synchronizing consonants to increase the dramatic sense of each song.
This Year’s Concert: “Take Me to the Water”
The title holds two meanings. First, it honours the water theme running through the repertoire with classic gospel songs like “River in Judea,” “Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat,” and “Roll, Jordan, Roll.” Second, water โ in all of its dimensions from calm and soothing to rough and challenging โ offers important imagery for each of us navigating life in today’s world.
The choir meets every Tuesday evening at St. Andrew’s Church with talented accompanist Grai Gillespie and former choir leader Ann Antonides. Together, they sing, laugh, and make community together.
